Content Areas (Codes):
The following Content Areas will be printed on the certificate for this course:
- Computed Tomography
- Physics and Basic Science
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the range of technologies and clinical applications of cone-beam CT in image-guided interventions (including surgery, interventional radiology, and image-guided radiation therapy) and specialty diagnostic imaging (such as breast imaging and orthopaedic / musculoskeletal imaging).
- Discuss the diversity of cone-beam CT imaging systems for image-guided interventions, including fixed-room and mobile C-arms, O-arms, and new embodiments.
- Review the image quality challenges in cone-beam CT, including image noise and artifacts.
- Identify the methods being developed to address such challenges, including new detector types and 3D image reconstruction algorithms.
- Identify the systems and methods being developed to further improve spatial resolution in cone-beam CT, offering to extend imaging performance for applications such as breast imaging (detection of microcalcifications) and orthopaedic imaging (visualization / quantification of fine skeletal detail).
- Recognize the methods by which cone-beam CT can give quantitative measures of pathophysiology, including quantitative imaging metrics related to musculoskeletal health in high-resolution orthopaedics imaging.
- Explain the technology of musculoskeletal (MSK) cone-beam CT (CBCT).
- Identify key differences between MSK CBCT and other orthopedic imaging modalities.
- Discuss emerging clinical applications of MSK CBCT.
- Relate the overall design and use of a dedicated breast CT scanner.
- Demonstrate the performance of the scanner as assessed using mathematical observers and other quantitative metrics.
- Demonstrate the performance of the scanner based upon radiologist-observer studies.
