The modules are one resource that may be used in addition to other forms of self-study such as text books, journal articles, and other online resources. In addition, educators may find them useful as a framework or supplement for didactic lessons. The modules are not intended to be the primary or sole source of information for residents preparing for board exams.

- Describe the fundamental characteristics of all projection imaging systems that determine the capabilities and limitations in producing a high-quality radiograph.
- Identify how variability in technique and processing affects image quality and dose.
- Understand how to balance dose and image quality in projection-based x-ray imaging systems.
- Differentiate the operational optimization of digital radiographic systems.
