Obesity: More than Meets the Eye: The Role of the Radiologist (2025)
Course Overview

The prevalence of obesity is increasing rapidly worldwide. Obesity is linked to many diseases, including diabetes type 2, cardiovascular disease, liver disease and malignancies. In this educational session strategies will be discussed to detect obesity related complications and how to monitor disease progression and therapeutic effects. The first lecture will show how imaging can help overcome barriers to effective obesity care. The second overview will focus on multi-organ imaging for diagnosis and monitoring of obesity, based on data from the UK biobank. The final presentation aims to explain the concept of 'opportunistic screening', harvesting quantifiable metrics on obesity and related complications based on routine clinical imaging exams performed for general purposes.
