Emergency Radiology in Practice: From Imaging Findings to Clinical Decisions is a case-based educational experience designed for radiologists seeking practical, immediately applicable knowledge in emergency imaging. Internationally recognized faculty will present a broad range of traumatic and non-traumatic emergencies, highlighting imaging findings that guide patient management and clinical outcomes. The program combines focused lectures with interactive small-group case sessions, giving participants unique opportunities to discuss cases directly with experts while refining their approach to image interpretation, reporting, protocol selection, and clinical decision-making. Participants will also review emerging advances in emergency imaging, including evolving imaging protocols, and reporting strategies.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss practical imaging approaches to common and challenging traumatic and nontraumatic emergencies involving the chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, extremities, and central nervous system.
  • Recognize key imaging findings, subtle abnormalities, and common diagnostic pitfalls that may affect patient management.
  • Optimize CT protocols and the use of angiographic and delayed imaging techniques for emergency and trauma imaging.
  • Distinguish findings requiring urgent intervention from those appropriate for non-operative management, additional imaging, or clinical follow-up. 
  • Communicate imaging findings through clear, concise, and clinically actionable reports that support medical, surgical, and interventional decision-making, and apply these principles during interactive case-based discussions. 
  • Describe emerging advances in emergency imaging, including evolving imaging protocols and reporting strategies that support timely, clinically actionable decision-making.

Felipe Munera, MD

Felipe Munera, MD, is a professor of Radiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami Health System (UHealth), Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Ryder Trauma Center. He is fellowship-trained in Body Imaging and Emergency and Trauma radiology and board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology. Dr. Munera is the Division Director of ER/Trauma Radiology, previously vice-chair of Clinical Operations, and currently serving as Vice-Chair for the Strategy and Expansion Department of Radiology. Dr. Munera served over a decade as Director of Imaging Services at UHealth and is an expert on imaging Emergency, Critical Care, Trauma patients, and abdominal imaging. He is currently the Vice-President of ASER and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally throughout the world. He is also an active fellow of the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER).

Christine (Cooky) Menias, MD

Dr. Christine O. Menias is a Professor of Radiology in the Abdominal Radiology section at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Arizona, USA. She joined Mayo Clinic in 2013, is a Consultant in the Department of Radiology and Department of Surgery, and is the former Chair of the Division of Abdominal Imaging, Mayo Clinic-Arizona. Dr. Menias is a recognized leader in the field of Abdominal Imaging, with special interests in oncologic, transplant, gynecologic, and emergency radiology. “Cooky” has received numerous educator awards, most recently awarded the Society of Abdominal Radiology Gold Medal for 2023, which is the highest recognition given by the Society. Dr. Menias’s clinical focus has been geared to patient-centered care. Dr. Menias currently serves as the first female Editor-in-chief of RadioGraphics, our leading education journal for Diagnostic Radiology, and splits her time between Mayo Clinic and at the Journal.

Jorge Soto, MD
Boston University School of Medicine

Dr. Jorge A. Soto is Professor of Radiology at Boston University School of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Radiology, Boston Medical Center. Dr. Soto completed his medical training at the Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud in Medellin, Colombia, and then completed his residency training in Radiology at the same institution. He subsequently completed his fellowship training in abdominal imaging at Boston University School of Medicine. His primary interests are imaging of traumatic and non-traumatic abdominal emergencies and pancreatico-biliary imaging. Dr. Soto has more than 130 peer-reviewed journal articles, 65 review articles or book chapters, and is the editor of five books. Dr. Soto serves or has served on the editorial board of multiple journals, including Radiology. He was named Lifetime Honored Educator by the Radiological Society of North America and has received numerous additional awards and recognitions, including the Marshak Distinguished Lecturer Award of the Society of Abdominal Radiology. In 2018, he was named Honorary Member of the Sociedad Española de Radiología Médica (SERAM) and in 2022 received the Gold Medal of the InterAmerican College of Radiology. He is Past President of the New England Roentgen Ray Society and the American Society of Emergency Radiology. He recently served as Chair of the International Outreach Committee of the American Roentgen Ray Society. He also served as Chair of the Annual Program Planning Committee for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the RSNA. He is a Fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiology and the American Society of Emergency Radiology. He has been a Visiting Professor and invited speaker at numerous institutions and countries throughout the world.

  • Registration cancellations received by January 29, 2027, will result in a refund of paid fees, minus a $50 administrative fee.
  • Refund requests received after January 29, 2027, will not be accepted or refunded.
  • No refunds will be issued for registrations purchased and not used.
  • RSNA reserves the right to modify or cancel the course as needed. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified by February 12, 2027, and registration fees will be fully refunded. RSNA will not be responsible for the cost of airfare or any associated change fees.
